To Receive a Criminal Background Check:
A criminal background check is a search of the RCMP databases. A criminal background check is usually required for employment purposes, by-law licences, immigration, border crossing. (NOT for individuals seeking a position with children or the vulnerable sector).
How to apply?
You can print out this form and complete it prior to attending, to expedite your request, however you must attend in person at either our Yonge/Mulock or Hillcrest location (see details below) and provide two pieces of identification to allow us to verify your identity.
The identification must confirm your name, date of birth and address, and one piece of identification must include a photo. The following is a list of identification that are accepted.
Photo identification: must provide photo and both the name and date of birth of an individual:
Non-photo identification: which provides both the name and date of birth or address of an individual
- Driver's licence
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Baptismal certificate
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Canadian Blood Donor Card
- Firearms Acquisition Certificate
- Fishing or Hunting Licence
- Government Employment Card
- Hospital Card
- Immigration Papers with photo
- Immigration Papers
- Indian Status Card
- Student card
- Military Employment Card
- People under 16 can provide school identification, or their parent can provide verification
- Permanent resident card

$15 for students with a valid student card
$40.00 for people requesting a check for employment purposes or other
You can pay by certified cheque or money order made payable to the York Regional Police, cash, debit card, Visa and MasterCard.
Who can apply?
Anyone with appropriate identification can obtain a criminal background check from the York Regional Police.

Out of Country:
If you live out of the country and require a Criminal Background check, an immediate family member (with proof or same surname) or a lawyer may attend on your behalf. This person will need a duly signed letter from you stating the person is attending to request a criminal background check on your behalf. Download the Criminal Background Check form here.The family member or the lawyer will also need to provide two legible photocopies of identification for yourself, as mentioned above, and one identification must bear your signature. The person attending on your behalf will also be required to show us two pieces of identification, one being a photo identification. The response letter will be mailed out to the applicant, therefore please ensure your letter and the form contain a current mailing address. Applicable postage will be charged for out-of-country mailing.

Location
An immediate family member (with proof or same surname) can obtain the Criminal Background check by attending either our Yonge/Mulock or Hillcrest location. A signed letter of authorization from the applicant must accompany this request. The letter will be mailed directly to the applicant.
